Fixed Mindset Vs. Growth Mindset

Mental, physical, and emotional stability is maintained when you succeed in building trust in a relationship. Trust can be considered as a foundation of a relationship that ensures a happy and active relationship.

What Causes Trust Issues in a Relationship?

There are numerous possibilities for the breakage of trust in a relationship. Lying, cheating, manipulating, and breaking words is a common reason that causes trust issues. Lack of these factors in a relationship doesn’t assure commitment with a partner.

Other causes of trust issues arise when a person in a relationship is overly protective towards each other. Such a scenario generally occurs when you are suspicious of the loyalty of your partner. Assumption and fear of betrayal also keep one in a depressing situation that doesn’t build trust with a partner.

What Happens When You Build Trust in a Relationship?

Trust isn’t easy to build, for it requires patience and, most importantly, effort from both sides. Although it is hard to build a trustworthy connection, you will enjoy every moment with each other once trust is established. But, either intentionally or unintentionally, don’t do something that hurts people, for it downgrades existing trust.

Trust in a relationship symbolizes respect and support for one another. You will feel comfortable when you are around the person you trust the most. You have no intention of hurting their feelings as you are emotionally and physically bound with each other’s presence.

Moreover, despite being vulnerable to each other, you won’t hide things once trust is built in a relationship. You will have better communication and no mixed feelings to assure further existence of the relationship.

How Can You Build Trust in Relationships?

For physical, psychological, and emotional security, trusts and respects in a relationship are mandatory. If you are concerned about earning trust in your relationship, then you are in the right place. Go through these 7 trust-building activities to build trust in a relationship and make your bonding healthy and long-lasting.

1. Give Quality Time

Prioritizing time in a relationship plays a significant role in making healthy bonding. Give time to your partner but, it doesn’t mean being in physical contact 24/7, and time counts when you will be able to give time to your partner out of a hectic schedule. It depends on how to communicate with each other, either physically or virtually.

The time you give or receive to/from your partner defines your emotional support and availability in a relationship. You will be able to develop trust when you are responsive and enjoy one another’s company. Failure to set personal time in a relationship gradually depletes the level of trust in a relationship.

2. Explore Vulnerable Side

Showing a vulnerable side of yours to your partner doesn’t let you down. Talking with your partner about your insecurities, fear, past, and something that bothers or makes you happy is a gateway to build trust in a relationship. If you are emotionally connected with your partner, don’t be embarrassed about sharing things with them.

It’s unnecessary to be vulnerable quickly in a relationship; take your time unless you feel comfortable sharing your feelings. Vulnerability guarantees authenticity in your relationship, and you will be able to develop confidence in your bonding. You will no longer feel awkward sharing secrets or things bothering you or keeping your confidence low.

3. Be Careful While Making Decisions

Trust yourself before you seek to trust in relationships. Although people claim to love and attachment as a matter of heart, you need to equally exercise how your mind interprets the relationship. Before committing, make sure you know the person with whom you want to be in a relationship. In the first place, respect your word and intention on how you will take this relationship.

Over-commitment is a bad choice if you think it’s a way to build trust in a healthy relationship. It’s not good to always go with the flow of your partner’s decision. Gain the ability to say no and be consistent in your decisions about what you say or do. Therefore, careful decision-making ability makes you able to honor your commitments.

4. Be a Good Listener

A healthy relationship is all about getting to know each other. When one wants you to know about their feelings, respect their effort and listen to your partners. Don’t let them feel worst ignoring what they are saying and interrupting with your fun things. You must establish communication thoughtfully and engagingly to gain trust.

Apart from being a good listener, be a good observer as well when you share your stuff. Try to read if they are paying attention to what you are sharing. It is not good if you want them to listen and be busy with their phones and pretend to hear. Communicating by respecting and being responsive is required to develop trust in a relationship.

5. Admit Mistakes

Being committed to a relationship doesn’t mean you need to share every secret unless you are okay with that. But this doesn’t mean you are supposed to hide or ignore mistakes. Be courageous enough to admit the mistakes whether it was done intentionally or not. Being truthful defines the reliability of trust in your relationship.

Admit mistakes you made and ask for the possibility to cover the mistake. You admit mistakes and also let your partner remain liable for the relationship. In such a situation, talk to each other to recover mistakes and make promises not repeating the same thing. The gesture of admitting mistakes strengthens trust in a relationship.

6. Prioritize Respect

A relationship is nothing in the absence of trust and respect. You will never develop trust unless you respect your partner. You should respect your partner, but this doesn’t mean that you agree with whatever they decide or say. Remember the role of respect as a way to appreciate your partner’s word.

Never judge or make fun of their things that question the other person’s dignity, and such behavior is likely to gradually break trust. Further, respect is a two-way thing, and you respect your partner and make sure you get the same response from them. Build and maintain trust without asking for respect forcefully.

7. Take Your Time to Build Trust

Don’t take a relationship as fun like you meet a person today and in a couple of days, you see each other. Forming a committed healthy relationship is complicated as you should have complete trust in each other. That’s why you take your time to know the person and build trust at the same pace.

The main reason for a person getting hurt in a relationship is having many expectations from the partner. Too much expectation is not good in a relationship. Because when you don’t meet the expectation, you fail to trust your partner. Overall, take your relationship gradually to see how trustworthy a person can be.

Conclusion

Trusting your partner is a secret to a consistent relationship, and trust is the foundation of a strong relationship. As far as you have no trust in a person, don’t tag the relationship as there is no assurance for a stable relationship. But, make sure you trust yourself before earning trust in relationships.

Giving quality time, exploring the vulnerable side, making precise decisions, listen to your partners admitting mistakes, prioritizing respect, and gradually earning trust are trust-building activities in intimate relationships.
